One of the biggest Monster Bash boosters, aside from Bash boss Ron Adams, is his wife, Ursula. In fact, as you'll read below, Ursula could well be considered the...

BRIDE OF THE BASH

by Ursula Adams

When I first met Ron (Adams...owner of Creepy Classics Video), I soon learned that he had a passion for the Universal monsters. Ron, a former radio program director, let that passion overtake him..and now monsters are is his whole, and partially, my life!

The video business started out very small at first. It was basically a hobby, not Ron's career. As Ron attended more and more genre conventions, interest surmounted and Creepy Classics Video became more of a second job. I witnessed Ron come home from an eight hour work day (ten if you count the commute) and then stay up to the wee hours into the next day fulfilling his ever increasing orders.

The Bride and her mate...

And then, one day, Ron arrives home from work and tells me he would like to do his very own convention. I did not know what to think...but I know when Ron has set his mind to something he will do it and successfully. And of course, the Bash was a smash and continues to be the best convention of its kind. All this because of the love, hard work and dedication that Ron puts into his work.

What is it like to live with this Bash master? First, let me give you a picture of Creepy Classics/Monster Bash headquarters. It all takes place in our lovely, Victorian (and unfortunately not haunted) home nestled in the quaint, historical town of Ligonier, Pennsylvania. From all outside appearances, everything seems normal. But go inside and you've entered Ron's crypt filled with monster movies, magazines, and memorabilia. If Ron is not at his computer updating his web page, he's packing boxes, taking phone orders, setting up Bash arrangements...or about to zip off to one of his numerous excursions to the post office.

His desk always stacked with orders and piled high with neon orange Monster Bash flyers ready to be sent. I try as much as possible to assist him when I return from my job as an elementary school teacher. I have addressed notices to the thousands of customers on our mailing list so many times..that I should have their names and addresses memorized. Not to mention, I have packing boxes of videotapes down to a science. I have done a lot of proofreading for Ron as well. And STAPLING! I will never forget the tables stretching from our front door through the living room and into the dining room stacked...and I do mean stacked with the thousands of papers that, after being collated, folded and stapled ended up becoming our Creepy Classics catalog!

During the Bash, I am almost constantly at the registration table meeting and greeting the legions of eager monster fans our convention unites.

Ursula and Harry...
Ursula poses with the legendary monster animator Ray Harryhausen at last year's Monster Bash.

How has all of this affected me? Even though I cannot truly call myself a monster fan (I do know the Universal Mummy series in order, just ask me) I am very supportive of Ron. I am excited about what he is doing and and I very proud of all he has accomplished! I appreciate hearing a customer's excited voice from our Creepy Classics phone line when it's learned that we've found the movie that scared them to death as a child, when I see eyes shine with admiration when Bashers are talking face to face with Forry (Forrest J Ackerman), Ray Harryhausen, or any of our wonderful guests of honor, and when I hear the Bash staffers just getting together, reliving childhood monster memories...I know then Ron has not only made his dream come true but the dreams of many others.

He's also touching the future. By the time our daughter turned one year old, she could say "Frankenstein" and identify all the Universal Monsters. (You should see her "Wolfman" face!)

Thanks for giving us your own "Bride Of The Bash" perspective, Ursula!  Cheers!
